We Need To Talk About Kamala Harris’ Vogue Covers

Kamala Harris has become many firsts for the United States. First Female Vice President, first Black Vice President, first South-Asian Vice President, and now first Vice President to appear on the cover or covers of American Vogue. The covers have become quite controversial though, as it’s been reported Anna Wintour & Vogue changed the intended cover the Harris’ team expected. Twitter, Instagram, the Washington Post were alight with comments and opinions on the cover. I want to break down the covers, the designers involved, the history of FLOTUS on the cover, and how we shouldn’t expect all that much fashion from Kamala just because she’s a woman!

The BAFTAs or British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award show was held both in person and digitally this year. It’s interesting to see these hybrid award shows come together, as it definitely creates red carpet styles vs more editorial images! Except Andra Day, she had her own step and repeat and I loved it!

Big actors like Renee Zellweger and Regina King unfortunately disappointed in some of the bigger luxury brands like Armani & Christian Dior. But new faces on the red carpet like Kosher Ali & Kingsley Ben-Adir killed it in Alexander McQueen Dior Men respectively! Leslie Odom Jr. gave us something to think about in Versace, while Priyanka Chopra also opted for multiple looks in Ronald van Der Kemp & Pertegaz!

Say Yes To The Dress is always a favorite of mine, it’s usually heartwarming, happy, and filled with just enough drama. But Say Yes To The Dress Bridesmaids is my guilty pleasure because it’s filled with pettiness and ugly dresses!

Tik Tok has without a doubt become one of my favorite, and most addicting habits since the Covid-19 quarantine hit! Although, I was lowkey using it before that. But getting to see the fashion community growing on the app, which is promoting conversations about sustainability, luxury brands, and fashion history is really cool.

Today’s video focuses on creators that have been up cycling thrifted or second hand garments into items that are either cooler or more wearable, which is really cool to see. Of course, with climate change and other issues like this becoming more and more apparent, fashion has been saying it wants to transition away from wasteful practices. Some of this is definitely just greenwashing, but some brands are really finding their voices through these ethical practices.

But there’s a whole other side of people, who aren’t solely designers or make a living off of fashion that are creating and up cycling garments into styles that are unique and super cute. I think it’s important to see that you don’t have to be a luxury brand to incorporate sustainable or upcycled pieces into your wardrobe!
